Look, a post!
Ok, just an announcement, actually. Pictures from our recent vacation to Seattle and the Alaska cruise are up on my Flickr page. My account name is "butterflies are free." I can't get a good link, but if you go there, you can search for me. If you're interested. :-) "Our" here = me, D and J. Current Mood: sleepy | | Saturday, July 21st, 2012 | | 7:24 pm |
Ella's surgery bills
Originally posted by issendai. Reposted by rms_butterfly at 2012-07-21 19:24:00. Update on 9/5: Six weeks after her accident, Ella is now wandering the house and leaping up on beds and bunks and other things that need cat hair on them. She has a limp, which is probably permanent, but she's not letting that stop her. Read the full update here.
Update on 8/1: Ella is doing well! Anne got a second opinion from a surgeon, who said this type of pelvic fracture would heal better without surgery than with surgery. Ella's leg has moved back into the correct alignment, and she's getting feeling back in the leg. Anne is keeping Ella confined to a large dog crate during the day to prevent her from leaping or running and worsening the fracture. It will take four to six weeks for Ella to heal, and she'll need several more vet visits, but if things keep going as they have been, she won't need surgery.
I'll be posting Anne's updates later today. For now, you can read them directly on her Facebook.
The amazing outpouring of support you all have shown Ella enabled Anne to get a second opinion that she otherwise wouldn't have been able to get. She says, "I don't have to go with 'if it was my cat I wouldn't bother.'" It's also covering vet visits, painkillers, and all the other things that an extended injury brings. Anne isn't going to make a final reckoning until Ella is well and truly out of the woods, but right now, it looks like your donations will more than cover the rest of Ella's care.
Thank you all so much. Your generosity on behalf of Miss Ella is wondrous and staggering. As a personal friend of the little grey lady, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This is Ella. ( More pictures of Miss Ella.Collapse )On Thursday night, Ella came home dragging herself by her forelegs. Anne rushed her to the emergency animal hospital. This is Ella's pelvis... ...which is not supposed to look like that.
It will cost $1500 to $4500 to get medical care for Ella's broken pelvis--$1500 to amputate her leg, $4500 to pin the bone and save her leg. Anne just got hit with a ton of bills and doesn't have enough to cover either operation. Please, donate whatever you can to help save Ella's leg. (Or send a check if you don't want to use Wepay. Message me for the name and address.) Every little bit helps.
And if you can't donate, please repost. Friends-of-friends have already been a huge help.
Donations are now more than enough to cover Ella's medical expenses. Thank you all so, so much.
If you want to link to or repost this from any other platform, please do. Thank you to those of you who are getting the word out, and many, many thanks to those who have donated. Send questions about donations to morgansong, who's handling the fundraising for Anne. She can no longer accept Paypal donations because Paypal is having issues. Crisis averted. Updates on Ella's condition and photos are in the comments: Sunday evening, Tuesday morning, and Tuesday evening. She's hanging in there. Brave little kitty. We've raised $1,548 $2,178 so far*--and by "us," I mean all of us, those who've donated and those who've spread the word. Thank you all so, so much. The kindness of strangers has been wonderful. The Internet has made the world a smaller place, and sometimes, it's a smaller, better place.* $1,771.45 from Wepay and $406.16 from Paypal. | | Monday, March 26th, 2012 | | 8:28 pm |
Proposing a meme: Who's brave enough to say it with me?
(Courtesy of catsittingstill) I had sex before I was married. Many times. With several different people. I used birth control every single time. And I'm not sorry for any of it; this is perfectly normal behavior. Any politician who voices the slightest problem with this will not be getting my vote, my money, or my effort. Voting for someone who holds you up to public contempt is self destructive. I'm not self destructive. How about you? Current Mood: full | | Thursday, January 26th, 2012 | | 7:05 pm |
My happy place

Scamper-kitty
This growing old, sick and dying thing sucks. We just brought Scamper to the vet and stayed with him while left us. I wish I knew if there really was a Rainbow Bridge for them when they go. They deserve an afterlife. *waves to Scamper kitty* and hopes for the best. I will miss him. He was a dear, sweet boy. Current Mood: sad | | Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 | | 7:18 am |
Mississippi Personhood Amendment
Originally posted by gabrielleabelle at Mississippi Personhood AmendmentOkay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media. Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status. Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing. Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states. What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it. The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute. So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it. If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it. What to do? - Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it. - If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link. - You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this. - Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness. Earthquake!
For the first time in my life, I felt an earthquake! Here in our building in downtown Columbus, FVM and I both felt things shake, just briefly. Freaky! No damage here, but I'm kinda freaked out. Hope anyone else who felt it, especially closer to the epicenter, is ok. Shout out if you have news or just to say you're ok! *hugs my FL* Current Mood: shakey | | Friday, April 29th, 2011 | | 10:29 pm |
Penguicon!
At Toy Boat concert. Fuzzyvanman got tagged by Gundo to run sound for their concert, since they're running sound for the con.:-) So, fun moment so far: Gundo running up to M w a smile like he'd found a long lost brother. They just did Andy's Pegasus-winning song, "Uplift." Current Mood: cheerful | | Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 | | 8:35 pm |
Dinner
So, for dinner tonight, I made this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/oven-roasted-chicken-tenders-saltimbocca-recipe2/index.htmlWe reached the conclusion that the chicken tenders saltimbocca and the risotto-like pasta dish were tasty but loads more work then the finished product was worth. I might make it again sometime, but not often, and not on a work night! This was one of Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals, but it took me at least an hour, and I'm a relatively experienced home cook. I might try the chicken again, adding brie or swiss inside of the prosciutto, with the sage. Rating on a scale of "struck out" to "home run": a double. What do you all think of the recipes? Or have any of you actually tried either of these already? Current Mood: tired | | Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 | | 7:37 pm |
Fishy for dinner!
We decided to go to the giant Giant Eagle (which is a grocery store in this part of the US) for lunch today; they have a food court! The plan was then to buy good fish to make for dinner today. We found nice sole fillets and M found this recipe: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1745,147170-255205,00.html, which is Sole in Lemon and Dill. Bought fresh lemon and dill at the store, and I successfully cooked fish! This is remarkable, as I have often had, shall we say, "issues" with having fish turn out edible when I cook it. All fish is eaten, along w/home canned greenbeans and some baby green peas. Yummy! What are you having for dinner today? Current Mood: pleased | | Monday, January 31st, 2011 | | 10:42 pm |
Conflict - not a con report

Happy New Year!
Hello, all you out in LJ-land! Happy New Year to all. Be safe, especially if you go out tonight. I've spent a lovely week in the Pacific NW with D and J, and had a great time visiting and eating yummy food and petting the doggies and the little alien kitties. I fly out tomorrow at 6:30 Pacific time and get in late evening back home. I'm going to miss D and J, but I currently miss E and What's-His-Name, too. And our kitties. All packed and now wrestling with the printer to get my boarding passes printed. All my stuff fits in the suitcase, and I have books kindly loaned by D and J to read, since I finished the two I brought on the way out here. Enjoy whatever you're up to tonight and have a Happy New Year! Current Mood: melancholy | | Thursday, December 23rd, 2010 | | 10:41 pm |

trying to be an update
Briefly.... Had vacation mostly in Victoria, BC. Very pretty, good to be with family-of-choice. We all weren't there, but there will be other times. Started back on Wii tonight, with a gentle nudge from D. Actually felt better after, but I mostly did yoga. The stretching feels so good. Went to Context last weekend in Columbus. Nice literary con, with music. M ran sound for the 2 (very good) concerts: flikertom and billroper. Bought some books, got some free. Yay, free books! Have business meeting in Atlanta next week. Will spend some time while there with my college friend and her husband. Always good to see her again. She has new-ish puppies! :-) Miss my J, who is back in Victoria for a while. :-( But, will see her again for OVFF. :-) Now am going to play a silly computer game, then go to bed. Yay, sleep. Nighty-night, LJ! Current Mood: calm | | Monday, July 26th, 2010 | | 1:09 pm |
my doggie
We're taking Crumby to the vet at 1:30 today. She's not coming home. She's tired now, and it's time. Current Mood: sad | | Sunday, July 25th, 2010 | | 8:57 pm |
Confluence
Safely home from Confluence. Good trip back. Con report later. Briefly, great filk track! Thanks to Randy Hoffman for a great time. Current Mood: bouncy | | Sunday, June 13th, 2010 | | 10:24 pm |
Update: no bad news this time!
Please see my icon, in honor of Pride Month. :-) I may watch some of the local Pride Parade, as it goes right past where the knitting convention is next weekend. What more could a girl ask for? We went to the Acorn Housefilk in Ann Arbor MI yesterday. fuzzyvanman drove his van with me, pondside, solomons_pond, and maedbh7 from here to there, with a stop for lunch at the Denny's Diner in Findley on the way. While on our food break, went into a tack shop to look at Wellingtons (J's idea) and I found Shoes. Lovely, lovely shoes, in burgandy leather that felt so good after trying them on that I didn't want to take them off at all! www.ariat.com to look at the shoes. Tambour is the style I bought. At the house filk, we saw lots of nice folks, including robinjune, bigbumble, and of course, peteralway. We had lots of fun, and J and D did really well on the songs they did. I have such talented sweeties. :-) Music was played, pizza was ordered and eaten, then the long drive home. FVM brought us safely back home, arriving around 11:30-ish, I think. We're trying doggie diapers on Crumby tonight, to see if they work to prevent her early morning um, well, let's just say she's often damp in the mornings before we can get her outside. Cats still insane, we're in the middle of having new flooring installed so the house is a crazy mess, and I'm sleepy. Moving laundry to dryer, then off to bed. Good night, LJ!
